Finding the right pair of women’s running pants: an impossible quest?
Of all the challenges that life has thrown at me, there’s one that gets me every time: finding a good pair of pants. There’s nothing worse than finally accepting that your beloved old pair of jeans probably has a few too many holes or your once much-cherished pair of women’s run tights are just a little bit too see-through to wear out in public. Once you’ve come to this realisation, next of course comes an old familiar feeling of dread: yep, it’s time to begin your search for a good pair of jeans/run tights all over again. Inevitably, such a search entails long days of trying on, false hopes and dashed expectations, and perhaps re-measuring every part of your body to try and find an online solution.
Well I might not be able to help you with the jeans, but in good news, I might have a solution for your run wear needs: SCODY's women’s 6 inch run pants.
A bit about me
I like to think of myself as a perfectly average runner. ‘Average' is of course a very vague term so here's what it means for me: I currently run about 3 times a week, have never run a marathon (which let’s face it, is an achievement which very much elevates one above ‘average’) but did once accidentally run a trail half (it's a long story). In any event, I'm certainly no speed demon, nor do I have any lofty running goals. But I'm a big believer in everyone deserving good kit, no matter whether you've just started running or are training for your next marathon. And when it comes to good, high-performance women’s running clothing, SCODY have got your back. If you're on the hunt for some new pants to run in, then look no further.
My favourite women’s run pants: SCODY’s 6 Inch run tights
SCODY's 6 Inch Run Tights are my absolute favourite to run in. And trust me: I've tried a lot. Indeed, my own journey in finding the right pair of pants took well over a decade. Of course, every body is unique in its own way and what works for some may not for others. My particular body is one which is just not built for short shorts, no matter how much I like the aesthetic. I've always had problems with my legs chafing, something which of course becomes even more of an issue when running.
After ruling out shorts fairly early on, then full length run tights (I prefer a bit of a breeze on my legs), I then spent many years trying various iterations of short run tights. The problems were plentiful: some were too short, others too tight around the waist, and most, even those that seemed to fit like a glove, would ride up. So imagine my joy when I finally found a pair of tights that worked: SCODY's 6 inch Medium Rise Run Tights.
So here are a couple reasons why SCODY's Women’s Running Medium Rise 6 Inch Run Tights are my all time favourite pants to run in.
1 The high-performance fabric
Fabric is of course hugely important and the fabric used in SCODY’s 6 inch run tights is a large part of why I love them so much. The high performance X-Opaque contrast fabric is both stretchy whilst still retaining some rigidity in order to add compression and keep the shorts in place. Don’t get me wrong, I love the soft silky fabric you find in some women’s activewear and women’s yoga clothing. But when it comes to running, I often notice that the softer the fabric, the quicker it rides up. Unlike these products, SCODY’s tights are made for athletic performance. They may not be my go-to choice when it comes to bumming around the house in ‘active’ wear all day, but when it comes to running they strike the perfect balance between comfort and performance.
Some other cool features of the fabric include its moisture-wicking and antimicrobial qualities which keep you dry and comfortable no matter the distance. Better yet: you don’t have to worry about any awkward sweat patches showing up where you don’t expect (we’ve all been there - or at least witnessed someone who’s been there!). And SCODY's fabrics are built to last. With the right care, they will go on and on. I'm about 5 years in on my first pair and they're still going strong!
2 The perfect leg length
For me, 6 inches is the perfect length. It is long enough to ensure my thighs don’t chafe on longer runs, whilst also still letting me get plenty of wind on my legs. Don’t get me wrong, SCODY’s women’s full length tights and 3/4 length tights are just as good, but my personal preference is towards shorter garments. To me, there’s nothing better than that light brush of wind across your legs to keep you motivated on a challenging run. Frankly, covering my legs just seems like a waste (surely it’s not only me?).
3 No chafing
Okay this is kind of just an extension of 1 & 2 but frankly I felt it deserved its own category. I long ago accepted that short breezy run shorts were just never going to be my thing. As much as I love the aesthetic of short shorts and a stylish crop, my legs are just not built to move without some friction. Hence: chafing. And whilst in my early days I did use anti-chafe run sticks with some success, eventually I desired something more: a single pair of pants that didn't chafe. I find that the combination of the fabric and length ofSCODY's Medium Rise Tights is perfect in achieving this.
4 The roomy pocket
You know that feeling when you think you’ve found the perfect dress, only to come home, try it on and realise it doesn’t have pockets?! The actual WORST. Actually scratch that: the actual worst is fake pockets. You want your garment to look like it has pockets?? Have you considered perhaps just adding pockets?!
Not that this is relevant for this particular case because all of SCODY’s women’s run tights actually have pockets. And not just any pockets, like actual good pockets. Ones that both fit your phone in them and let it sit there comfortably while you run. The side pockets themselves were extensively redesigned and workshopped to ensure the optimal fit for keeping phones safe while running - and you can definitely tell! I find my phone fits snuggly in my pocket without moving and there's even room for some cash and keys too! What a win.
5 The waist band
The waist band also plays an important role in comfortable women’s run clothing. There's nothing worse than a waistband that digs in, but also you still need a waistband that is tight enough to keep your run pants in place. I tend to fluctuate in weight a bit (let’s face it, some months I just have more time/energy to exercise than others) so in my early days I thought a draw string would be the answer. However, that solution was quickly abandoned after experiencing my first ever chafing around my waist. SCODY's fabric run waist band, however, finished with super soft thread eliminates this risk. The wide fabric waistband onSCODY's 6 inch run tights both ensures the tights are snug and remain in place whilst also being comfortable no matter the distance. Plus they look super flattering too!
