It’s finally here, the event we’ve spent the last four years waiting for! That’s right: it’s the Olympics! We’re not sure about you (although we have a pretty good idea), but here at SCODY we LOVE the Olympics.
Why we love the Olympics
This year we decided to give some thought to what exactly it is we love. Here are just a couple of the reasons why we love it:
The Olympics is an incredible spectacle
Number one on our list, and perhaps the most basic of reasons, is that the Olympics is just honestly great to watch. From the opening ceremony to every exciting event, the Olympics has it all: anticipation, drama, intrigue, excitement, and incredible highs alongside soul-crushing lows, hopes and disappointment, excitement , disappointment, complications and resolutions.
And let’s not forget all the glitz and glamour – I mean, those Mongolian Olympics outfits wouldn’t seem out of place on a fashion runway!
We get to watch sports unashamedly for three weeks
Okay this reason is pretty much just an extension of number (1) but it’s important enough we figured we’d give it its own spot. Yep we like sports. We like watching sports. And three weeks of sports coverage? Who are we to say no?!
What’s extra special to us though is the diverse range of sports that we get to watch. Not all sports benefit from the coverage that big sports like soccer or tennis get. So getting to see all sorts of sports, that often don’t even make it to local broadcasts, is pretty special to us. We love following along with familiar
The Olympics unites us
There’s no denying that the Olympics is a cultural phenomenon – and an ancient one at that! And we think it’s quite special that such a wide range of people from across the world are all united in their celebration of sport for this three week period every 4 years. And it’s not just your athletes and sports enthusiasts that tune in: it’s everyone.
The Olympics celebrates the hard work and commitment of athletes and gives them a stage to perform
Let’s face it: making it to the Olympics is no ordinary feat. Not only does it take talent, but also incredible hard work, commitment, dedication, discipline, and sacrifice. The Olympics is a culmination of all that work: an opportunity for athletes to finally perform on a global stage after years of training. To us, it’s not the medals that are important, rather it’s just seeing athletes giving it their all, finally getting to take the stage at such a prestigious event.
And we love that it celebrates athletes from all disciplines. From the smaller sports like canoe slalom, to bigger sports like soccer, the Olympics recognises the incredible abilities of all athletes no matter their discipline.
The Olympics is inspiring
Cliched perhaps, but it is! When we watch as athletes test the absolute limits of the human body to perform amazing feats and smash world records, we can’t help be inspired. For some, perhaps that inspiration is to work towards one day competing at the Olympics themselves (
How we are celebrating the Olympics this year
This year we’ve decided to put on an
Did you know that we make more than just cycling, triathlon and running gear? That’s right: we make pretty much everything when it comes to sport – from rowing, to canoeing, to sailing
