Why Your Company Should Compete in Corporate Sport And Events?

Corporate sporting culture is an area that has seen a major shift in recent years. Somewhat gone are the days when the corporate sporting culture was seen as nothing more than business executives getting out and spending a few hours on the golf course. The business world has now clued in on the huge productivity benefits of a strong business sporting culture. Companies now encourage and incentivize their staff to be more involved in health and wellbeing programs, which in turn have been proven to increase company profitability.

Businesses understand that their most valuable business asset is their staff. It is important to bring the work team together to help promote positive attitudes and motivations, which in turn leads to a lower staff turnover and a more productive and happy workplace. Staff members need to have the ability to want to turn up to work with enthusiasm and the willingness to do what needs to be done in order to complete the task at hand. The workplace also needs to nurture a team environment where the staff feel valued and want to work hard in order to achieve goals and tasks. In addition to this corporate sport along with health and wellbeing programs help to:
- Build business and workplace values and a positive corporate image
- Reduce staff sick days and medical costs
- Promote healthy living & choices
- Build workplace friendships and sense of community between staff
- Lessen staff turnover
- Networking between businesses at corporate events and social sporting outings
- Increase staff self-confidence, efficiency and workplace productivity
- Create staff who are willing to go above and beyond their role at work to get the job done!

All these aforementioned facts have been proven to help increase productivity and the success of any business. These are just some of the major reasons why businesses are now spending big dollars on these sorts of programs and also seeing a great return on their investment.

Now more than ever we are pressed for time in our busy lives. This can be seen as one of the big reasons why the corporate sporting culture has shifted away from sports such as golf and towards cycling. Whereas in the past it was normal for people to spend half or even the full day out playing golf the new trend is to spend the morning out cycling, have a coffee to two with riding friends and then still be back in time to have breakfast with their family and also attend any family activities on weekends. This can even work well during the working week where staff can be back in the office ready to start the day after an early morning ride and coffee stop.

Speaking of which, the coffee shop is also the place for business people to start/finish their ride and then network with other people in a very social environment. In a recent study, 7/10 bosses revealed that they not only trusted coffee drinkers more than non-coffee drinkers but also that when they had a coffee together with the staff it helped to increase their level of rapport. The amount of business deals that now get done whilst out cycling as well as at the coffee shop post ride is truly amazing. An architect recently told me that by riding on Saturday mornings with his social riding group he created 4 large business opportunities over the last 6 months that would have never occurred if it hadn’t been for this social sporting activity.

In order to maximize the key points highlighted above businesses have now turned to custom sporting apparel. Having business staff members all in one uniform helps to embody team building, brand values, involvement and sense of community between all staff members. Corporate sporting events such as the BRW Triathlon are now seen as a major platform where businesses can gain exposure and credibility amongst other businesses. Having a well-designed branded team uniform goes a long way in positivity promoting businesses as well as giving staff a unified front to compete under.
